1. Children's Science Explorium

at 300 S. Military Trail in Boca Raton is free, with a suggested $5 donation, and is built for children 5 to 12 and their caregivers. It is open Monday to Friday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday, Sunday and holidays 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., closed Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Day. Parking at Sugar Sand Park is free. Some individual activities charge to cover materials or outside presenters.

2. Silverball Retro Arcade

3. Sandoway Discovery Center

keeps its exhibits indoors in a historic oceanfront house, and its program schedule gives a rainy visit some shape: shark and stingray feeding at 1 p.m., aquarium feeding at 2 p.m., animal encounter at 3 p.m., touch tank at 12:30 and 2:30 p.m. Admission is $10 for ages 3 and up, and it is closed Mondays.

4. Cornell Art Museum at Old School Square

A free, short indoor stop downtown between other errands, with live music in the galleries on Wednesday afternoons
